Tips when presenting your designs

You’ve been asked to present your designs. Yikes! It may not be the first and it certainly isn’t your last time, but you will need to prepare. At a high level there are some general guidelines to presenting any design work:

  • Firstly, Know your audience(s) – Most likely there are a variety of interested parties.

  • Next, Orient your audience – Summarize the purpose and/or issue you are trying to resolve. Summarize your research or think-through. Provide the rationale for your decisions.

  • Then, Tell a story while presenting – Bring the real world into the picture of what the user is experiencing and why.

  • Be prepared to hear and collect feedback – Feedback means your audience is interested in what you are presenting.

  • Think ahead to try and anticipate questions – If you understand what is important to your audience you can be sure to touch on those points. Review previous meeting recordings or transcripts – Have you addressed previous feedback?

  • Breathe... take a deep breath and crush it!!
